A new independent gas supplier in Lithuania

UAB “Imlitex“, which offers energy products under the “Imlitex Energy“ trademark, started operating in Lithuanian market as an independent gas supplier as well. The company’s representatives think that the increased competition might reduce the gas prices in the market.

“We did not engage in this activity in Lithuania until “Lietuvos dujų tiekimas“ (LDT) could offer its customers a lower price, following the compensation received when Lithuania won the case against “Gazprom” in the Stockholm Court of Arbitration”, –Dominykas Kryževičius, head of UAB „Imlitex“ gas trade department’s, says. – For other companies, it was did not make sense financially to engage in gas trade in that period. We started trading in Lithuania only this year, but before that, we already have been operating in  Estonia and Latvia.”

“Imlitex“ offers the whole range of gas supply services: supply, distribution and transfer.

“Although the sourcing is limited, there are different gas supply methods, – Mr Kryževičius explains. – Liquefied gas, for example, may be transformed into gas and stored in the Latvian Inčukalns gas storage, which allows the customers to better manage the seasonal price fluctuation.”

According to Mr Kryževičius , the company seeks to use liquefied gas terminal via state-created infrastructure and reduce gas prices for the customers even more.

“Imlitex“ is ambitious about growing the gas trade business until they are able to purchase cargo of several LNG ships into Lithuania.

Big portfolio lowers prices

According to the speaker, potential sources of gas supply are the same to everyone in Lithuania: either gas supplied by gas pipeline from Russia or gas supplied from the LNG terminal. However, “Imlitex“ may play the same card which it applies in the electrical energy trade: “Imlitex“ may offer its customers a better gas price because thegroup trades in more than 3 000 items of commodities and raw materials The price for the buyer who needs more than one type of raw materials may be more favourable due to the synergy resulting from the overall shopping bag with Imlitex Holdings.

“This allowed us to lower the gas prices, – Mr Kryževičius says. – Moreover, we decreased them by limiting our profitability as well. Our other advantage is that, unlike our major competitors, we do not have any big management apparatus. That is cheaper. We think that we contributed to increasing the competition in Lithuanian market. Now we are the largest private capital gas supplier in the country.”
